Minakshi Hooda Powers into Quarterfinals as India Strengthens Medal Charge at Boxing World Cup Stage 2 in China
Indian boxer Minakshi Hooda advances to the quarterfinals of the Boxing World Cup Stage 2 in China after a dominant 5–0 win over Poland’s Natalia Kuczewska. India records strong progress with multiple boxers reaching quarterfinals and semifinals, ensuring medals in select categories and setting up crucial Day 5 clashes.
Competing in the women’s 51 kilogram division, Minakshi, the reigning World Champion in the 48 kilogram category and currently ranked World Number One in that division, who is now transitioning to the Olympic 51 kilogram weight class, registered a decisive 5–0 unanimous decision win over Natalia Kuczewska of Poland. The result, confirmed through an official press release, ensured her smooth progression into the next stage of the competition.
In another bout on the same day, India’s Abhinash Jamwal competing in the 65 kilogram category exited the tournament after suffering a 0–5 defeat against Mirzokhid Imamnazarov of Kyrgyzstan.
India’s overall campaign in the tournament continues to remain strong, with five boxers already advancing to the quarterfinal stage. The qualified athletes include Nikhil in the 55 kilogram category, Deepak in the 70 kilogram category, Minakshi in the 51 kilogram category, Prachi in the 57 kilogram women’s category, and Saneh in the 65 kilogram women’s category.
In addition, Jyoti in the 48 kilogram women’s division and Jugnoo in the 85 kilogram category have progressed into the semi-finals, thereby ensuring medals for India in their respective weight classes.
Looking ahead to the fifth day of competition, four Indian boxers are set to compete in crucial quarterfinal clashes. In the women’s division, Minakshi will face Alua Balkibekova of Kazakhstan, Saneh will take on Kinga Krowka of Poland, and Prachi will compete against Shih Yi Wu of Chinese Taipei. In the men’s category, Nikhil will square off against Amin Mammadzada of Azerbaijan, while Deepak Poonia in the 70 kilogram division will meet Nabi Isgandarov of Azerbaijan.
India’s continued presence across multiple weight categories reflects a strong and consistent performance at the international level, with several boxers moving deep into the tournament and keeping medal hopes firmly alive.
